(Actually, until these lists I hadn't paid that much attention to how many ratings books had. I'm happier putting up something good that hardly anyone has heard of yet than I am adding the ten-thousandth rating to something. 5/13/2023 0 Comments Death Trance by Graham Masterton![]() ![]() For the boy had tousled hair so blond it was almost white, while his eyes were dark brown and slightly slanted, and there was a curve to his nose and a softness about his mouth that betrayed his mother's Balinese blood. An occasional American would glance at him, especially one who remembered the half-caste heritage of Vietnam, but then he would look away almost at once. Scarcely anybody took notice of the slight, thin-wristed boy with the old-fashioned bicycle. Sometimes he had to half-lift the bicycle onto his left shoulder to get around crates of chickens, bales of batik and baskets of snake-skinned salak fruit. ![]() Occasionally people would move out of the way for him, but more often he was forced to hop down from the saddle that was far too high for him and manhandle the bicycle through the crowds like a young cowboy trying to wrestle an obstinate steer. ![]() Whenever Michael found himself obstructed by early evening diners clustered around the warong stands with their white china bowls of fried noodles, he furiously jangled his bell. It was the monsoon season, hot and cloudy, and there were no stars. He steered his antiquated Rudge between the shuffling crowds of tourists and shoppers, between the jumbled arrangement of stalls lit with hundreds and hundreds of glass-funnelled gaslights. Death Trance Graham Masterton PROLOGUE Bali, 1981 It was just after eight o'clock in the evening when Michael came cycling through the night market. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments Pl travers![]() Her mother died suddenly in 1927, and that same year Mary was accepted into the Slade School of Art where she studied painting and drawing.Įven as a new author, Travers was never one to sell herself short, wanting E.H. Shepard, who illustrated Winnie the Pooh and the Wind in the Willows. Shepard was born in Sussex on Christmas Day in 1909, the only daughter of Florence Chaplin, a painter, and E.H. Despite a 54 year collaboration, Shepard is regularly ignored in discussions of the books: the 2013 movie Saving Mr Banks, which detailed the genesis of the film, did not even mention Shepard or the pivotal role she played in the books’ success. Travers’ own sense of ownership of her creation in turn obscured the contribution made by the illustrator Mary Shepard. ![]() ![]() The success of Disney’s 1964 movie Mary Poppins has often obscured the fact the popular series of books describing the experiences of the enigmatic nanny were in fact written by the Australian born author P.L. ![]() ![]() What starts as an electric, chance encounter at a Dairy Queen quickly evolves into a heated romance, a journey of trust and identity, and a ticking clock for survival.
